ICANN is taking action against Domain Registrar GoDaddy's controversial 'lockdowns' (http://gnso.icann.org/mailing-lists/archives/registrars/msg05077.html). As we reported earlier, GoDaddy has long had a lockdown policy for 60 days after a customer updated their contact information. Since ICANN requires that customers keep their contact details up to date, or risk having the domain forfeited, GoDaddy customers ended up being prevented from transferring their domains from GoDaddy to another registrar if they complied with the ICANN policy. What's worse, if the 60 day lockdown period ran over the domain name's ezpiration date, a customer had no choice bu to renew their domai with GoDaddy or lose their domain name alltogether.
